Celebrate San Diego Trans Day of Empowerment

Meeting a central part of its mission to provide educational and charitable service to the trans and gender non-conforming community, Neutral Corner donated $1000 to sponsor the Trans Day of Empowerment to be held Friday, April 14 at the LGBT Community Center.

The event is open to all and free. It’s a day to celebrate the accomplishments and diversity of the San Diego transgender community. Held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the LGBT Community Center (3909 Centre Street), the Day of Empowerment is the brain child of Tracie Jada O’Brien, who first organized it as a way to celebrate, empower, and honor trans community people in San Diego County.

This year’s event will be youth-focused. There will be entertainment, youth speakers, and refreshments. Awards will be presented to recognize outstanding contributions to the trans community. Last year, Veronica Zerrer of Neutral Corner was recognized for her efforts to build bridges within the trans community.

For the centerpiece of the program, organizers will announce recipients of the third annual Tracie Jada O’Brien Transgender Student Scholarship. For the second consecutive year, Neutral Corner has raised and donated money to help talented trans students achieve their educational goals.

The event venue is wheelchair accessible and ASL interpretation will be provided for the program. If you have a particular accessibility request, please contact melissa@sdpride.org.
