At its regular meeting held on March 25, the Neutral Corner board voted unanimously to continue its support for San Diego Trans Pride. Neutral Corner donated $600 to this year’s event, representing the third consecutive year of support for thesummertime event. In addition to the financial support, two Neutral Corner board members, Veronica Zerrer and Michelle Dungan, are assisting the Trans Pride committee in the planning process.
Trans Pride was started in 2014 by a small group of activists to address a lack of transgender-focused activities during Pride weekend. What started as a spontaneous community event has morphed into a celebration that has grown each year. In 2015, Neutral Corner served as fiscal sponsor for Trans Pride. Last year, in addition to its role as sponsoring organization, Neutral Corner members were instrumental in the planning the event.
Because of the growing attendance, Trans Pride has outgrown the space it has occupied in previous years. Trans Pride expects over 500 people to attend this year’s event. promises food and entertainment in addition to workshops, resources for trans people, and games for children and families.
The fourth annual Trans Pride will be held from 1 PM to 6 PM on July 14, 2017 in Balboa Park at Sixth Avenue and El Prado. Trans Pride is organized by members of the trans community in partnership with San Diego LGBT Pride.
