Senator McCain’s death takes a friend away from Transgender troops. He supported our willingness to serve.
In September of 2017 TheHill.com reported that Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman John McCain (R-Ariz.) backed a bipartisan bill that would have blocked President Trump’s ban on transpeople serving in the military.
“When less than one percent of Americans are volunteering to join the military, we should welcome all those who are willing and able to serve our country,” McCain said in a statement.
“Any member of the military who meets the medical and readiness standards should be allowed to serve — including those who are transgender,” he said.
Despite the bill being denied a vote in Congress President Trump’s proposed restrictive ban on Trans Americans serving has been embroiled in lawsuits since his announcements in July of last year.
